Lambo Door

Lambo door kits will make your car stand out of the crowd! This article will cover the installation of the lambo door conversion kit. The lamborghini door kit comes in a bolt on kit or a universal weld on kit. This door installation was on a mitsubishi 3000 gt using the weld on kit. The first thing that will need to be done is removal of the fenders. The top bolts are located under the hood where the fender wraps over from the side. There will be bolts on the bottom of the fender, the front, and possibly some in the back where the door opens. Remove all of the bolts and carefully pull back and out to remove the fender.

Once the fender is off, check to see if the door has a mechanism that helps keep the door part way or fully open. This is usually located half way up and between the front of the door and the body. The mechanism can be pushed into the door or may need to be removed completely, after you knock it’s pin out. Next shut the door and remove the top door hinge. DO NOT open the door at any time with either of the hinges removed. Figure out the way that the lambo door mechanism will need to be placed to fit it tight against the body and the door itself. The seams that meet under the fender may stick out a ways and will need to be ground down until it’s flush with the sheet metal of the body. When you think it is where it needs to be, tack weld the mechanism to the body minimally so that it can be removed. Now fit the fender back up to the body to see what problems that you may have. Three possible issues are if it will fit under the fender without hitting. How close it comes to the fender when it swings out is another issue. This is due to the different pivot point used and can’t be changed. This movement can be limited by two allen set screws. The fender may need to be trimmed or bent to allow space for the arm to swing over. The third issue is to watch the placement where the flange is welded to the door. The lambo mechanism will need to clear the wire plug-in block for the door. The wires may need to be pulled through the rubber grommet farther. This is to reach the door when extended upward, disconnect wires until the door is installed. If the fender cleared as you move the mechanism out and up you are almost ready. Look to make sure the flange against the body and the door are as tight to the metal as they can be. Remove the battery cable and cover the windshield or anything close to the weld that can burn. Weld some 1′ strips around the lambo mechanism. Preferably at least one per side of each flange. Now carefully remove the bottom door hinge. Slowly open the door while supporting it. The door will probably drop down a few inches as it comes out. You will need to set the one allen screw to adjust this height. Now support the weight of the door and carefully lift the door out and up. It will be heavy without any help from the shocks. Be careful when you set it down and close it. It can be damaged so don’t drop, move fast or slam it. If everything seems good then continue the welding. This next step will take two people. Have someone extend the modified door all the way up. Have the shocks ready with the ball end connectors already connected. Place them at the distance that they will be in, when they are screwed into the arm. Mark where the holes for the ball ends will be at. Try to leave some space between them so the shocks don’t bind together. If the holes are not right, one of the shocks will have to be compressed. These shocks are special and are VERY difficult to compress. Try to have the holes right. You will notice the material that you drill may not be very thick. Thicken the metal up with extra spread out weld or add a large fender washer to reinforce the area if needed. Drill the holes remove the ball end and weld around them. Extend the door up and connect the shocks. Now you can adjust the upper most height that the door swings up. If it swing up too high it may smack into the fender. Find a comfortable spot by testing it out. After the shocks you may need to readjust the bottom door limit again. The fender or ground effects may need to be cut and modified now to make room. This lamborghini door kit installation takes three or four days with experienced fabricators. Leave yourself extra time although it could be done much faster with a little experience. Enjoy all the looks!
