Replace Miata Water Pump

This article will cover the replacement of a water pump on a 1996 miata. This is generally done when the timing belt is being replaced. You should start off by following this link to a Timing Belt replacement. Then come back to this article to finish. It is always recommended to replace the water pump when the timing belt is replaced as it saves alot of labor. If you do not need to replace the timing belt you can use the plastic tie strap method which will make things go much faster. This picture shows the water pump pulley located in the center of the picture. The four bolts will need to be removed and the pulley taken off. The thermostat housing bolts (arrows) will not need to be removed.

Automotive Fuel Pump Relay

Category: Auto Tuning

fuel pump relay

If your fuel pump is not working there is a possibility that your fuel pump relay is bad. When you turn the ignition key forward the coil inside the relay is energized. When the coil is energized you can generally quietly hear the fuel pump buzzing for a few seconds. The fuel pump will come on before the engine has a chance to start up so that the fuel system will be pre pressurized. If the relay has gone bad the fuel pump will never come on. If you don’t hear the fuel pump turn on, look under the hood, probably inside the fuse panel to locate the relay. The air conditioning circuit will probably use a similar relay. If the relays are the same, you can swap the two to test the fuel pump relay.

Snowmobile Fuel Pump

Category: Snowmobile Engine

Snowmobile fuel pump problems can be diagnosed. A vacuum fuel pump is used on snowmobiles with carburetors. The first thing to look at is the vacuum line that will run to the crankcase. If this hose has any cracks, leaks or is not clamped tightly on to the crankcase fitting, it will not pump fuel. If the fuel pump still wont work, mark where the lines come from and make a line down the side of the pump. Disassemble the pump carefully and look at the diaphragms for cracks. Also inspect for blockage of any of the cavities or passages within the fuel pump. You can also spin the engine over to make sure the crankcase fitting is not blocked. This fitting will produce vacuum and pressure so don’t be alarmed. If you can’t find any problems rebuild or replace the pump. Fuel injected snowmobiles will use an electric fuel pump. First check to see that there is voltage coming to the fuel pump.

Water Pump repair

Category: Auto Tuning

A water pump circulates water from the engine and through the radiator to keep the engine cool. Most cars need a water pump somewhere around 120,000+ miles. Some cars like Hondas have the pump by the timing belt and some are driven off of it. These type of cars should replace the water pump at the same time the timing belt is replaced. The water pump is easy to replace in comparison to the timing belt. If not replaced, the water pump tends to die soon after replacement of the new, tighter timing belt. Many newer front wheel drive cars have the water pump on the left side of the engine. The pump is driven off an accessory belt that will need to be removed first. The belt tensioner will first have to be loosened. Many times the alternator acts as the tensioning device.
